Um forte tornado atingiu a cidade de Guangzhou, no sul da China, na tarde deste sábado, quando a capital da província de Guangdong foi atingida por fortes chuvas e uma tempestade de granizo.
A Administração Meteorológica da China afirma que o tornado ocorreu por volta das 15 horas (horário local) e teve intensidade de nível três (numa escala que vai de zero a cinco), noticiou a agência de notícias estatal Xinhua.
A estação meteorológica na vila de Liangtian, no distrito de Baiyun, em Guangzhou, a cerca de 2,8 quilômetros do ponto da ocorrência do tornado, registrou uma rajada de vento máxima de 20,6 metros por segundo à hora que ocorreu o tornado.
As autoridades da cidade emitiram, no início do dia, avisos de trovoadas, tempestades, granizo e tornados em vários distritos. Após imagens do tornado, houve relatos não confirmados de outro noutro distrito da cidade ao final da tarde, noticiou a Associated Press.
Uma investigação sobre os danos causados está em andamento, revelaram ainda.
