O misterioso caso da múmia escondida em estátua de Buda

A múmia de um monge budista foi encontrada dentro de uma estátua de Buda de mil anos. A descoberta, que ocorreu há quase dez anos, até hoje chama a atenção e é envolta em mistérios.

De acordo com o site UOL, A múmia foi descoberta em 2015, quando um comprador da estátua a levou a um especialista para restauração. Pesquisadores levaram o objeto milenar para o Centro Médico Meander, na Holanda. Lá, foi feita uma tomografia computadorizada que revelou que a estátua de 1,2 metro de altura escondia os restos mortais de um monge mumificado.

Segundo a CBS News, os exames revelaram que a múmia era de um homem, com idade entre 30 e 50 anos, que foi mumificado e provavelmente mantido em um mosteiro durante 200 anos antes de ser coberto por papel machê para fazer a estátua banhada em ouro.

De acordo com o History Channel, outro fato que intriga os pesquisadores é que os órgãos do monge haviam sido removidos e substituídos por pedaços de papel com caracteres chineses antigos e outros materiais.

Ainda de acordo com o Uol, a múmia estava sentada na posição de lótus, sobre panos também cobertos de inscrições chinesas. Acredita-se que ela seja do monge budista chamado Liuquan, um membro da Escola Chinesa de Meditação que teria vivido por volta do ano 1100.

O monge praticou a automumificação para se preparar para a vida após a morte, segundo a CNN.
