SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – O BNDES aprovou nesta quarta-feira (24) financiamento no valor de R$ 45,4 milhões para que o Instituto Butantan realize ensaios clínicos para o desenvolvimento de uma vacina tetravalente contra a influenza, o vírus causador da gripe.
A atual vacina produzida pelo Butantan protege contra os três tipos de vírus influenza mais prevalentes. O desenvolvimento da nova vacina ampliará a eficácia do imunizante, além de facilitar a incorporação de outras linhagens do vírus que futuramente passem a ser relevantes.
O apoio do BNDES visa a realização dos estudos clínicos fase 3, para a confirmação de eficácia e segurança da vacina, testes que precisam ser realizados para a aprovação do registro do imunizante pela Anvisa (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária).
Serão realizados dois ensaios clínicos fase 3 distintos, sendo um para participantes acima de 3 anos e outro realizado em crianças de 6 a 35 meses.
A expectativa é que os resultados dos testes da nova vacina sejam submetidos à Anvisa em dezembro de 2024, com previsão de emissão do registro do imunizante no segundo semestre de 2025.
“O acesso a vacinas é um direito do povo brasileiro, assegurado pelo SUS. Ao aumentar a efetividade da vacina contra a gripe utilizada nas campanhas do Ministério da Saúde, o projeto contribui para a melhoria do nosso sistema de saúde, por meio da queda dos números de hospitalizações, complicações e mortes causadas pela doença”, afirma Aloizio Mercadante, presidente do BNDES.
“A autorização deste recurso do BNDES chega em momento oportuno, mostrando o comprometimento do banco em contribuir para que o Brasil possa fortalecer sua autonomia no setor de imunobiológicos”, afirma Saulo Nassif, diretor executivo da Fundação Butantan.
