Uma funcionária de uma creche em Stockport, Inglaterra, foi acusada de causar a morte de um bebê de nove meses, a quem teria dito para “parar de reclamar” dias antes do trágico evento.
Genevieve Meehan, conhecida como Gigi, foi encontrada inconsciente em um dos quartos da creche Tiny Toes em 9 de maio de 2022. De acordo com o The Guardian, durante o julgamento nesta quinta-feira, o tribunal ouviu como Kate Roughley, de 37 anos, teria envolvido firmemente o bebê em um cobertor e o amarrado de bruços em um pufe, ignorando seus gritos e sinais de luta.
Mais de uma hora e meia depois, Genevieve foi encontrada com o rosto azulado e inconsciente. Ela faleceu no hospital um dia após o incidente.
Os jurados do tribunal de Manchester assistiram a imagens de videovigilância da sexta-feira anterior à morte de Genevieve, nas quais a promotora alegou mostrar Roughley agindo de forma agressiva com o bebê e demonstrando impaciência.
A funcionária da creche teria dito à criança de nove meses para “parar de choramingar e reclamar” e “mudar de comportamento”, enquanto a bebê chorava e tossia. Genevieve havia retornado à creche no dia anterior após um período no hospital com uma infecção respiratória.
“Genevieve, se tivéssemos alguma chance de sermos amigas, você a estragou”, teria dito Roughley à bebê, acrescentando: “Você está me deixando louca”.
Roughley estava cuidando de 10 bebês sozinha em certo momento, depois que outro membro da equipe foi para casa doente. No início do dia, ela teria reclamado do número de crianças que a gerência da creche havia aceitado, dizendo a um colega: “Eles só pensam em dinheiro, não se importam conosco”.
Roughley nega a acusação de homicídio por negligência e uma acusação alternativa de crueldade infantil. O julgamento continua.
